Cancelling A Magazine

How long does it take to cancel a magazine subscription? For years I’ve subscribed to a number of magazines through a publishing service. Most of the time they would extend my subscription for three years at a time.

I decided at least a year ago that I was not going to renew any of the magazines. So I would tell the nice person who called from the publishing company that I was not renewing my subscriptions. Of course, they all wanted to know why. “I don’t have time to read them.” They naturally found that hard to believe but accepted my word.

Or they accepted it until I’d get another phone call. This has been going on for at least a year. How many times must I tell them I don’t want any magazines?

You don’t have to tell them anymore. If you have caller ID, don’t answer if you don’t recognize the number, or if it’s a toll-free number. If it is important, they will leave a message. If they continue sending the magazine, don’t pay for it beyond your subscription date. If you don’t know who you talked to the last time, you can talk to them once more, and make a note of the date, the person to whom you spoke, and what you told them. You could actually just ignore them. You are not the only person in this situation, and they would never win if they tried making you pay.
