It’s not often that I read the sports page in the newspaper but I found myself leafing through it yesterday. I’m not sure what caused me to do that but I was taken aback by a photo of a race car driver pouring quart of milk on his head.
Now I’ve seen pictures of baseball players pouring champagne on each other at the close of the World Series. That’s always struck me as a waste of wine and I’ve never understood why anyone would want to be covered in a liquid that’s going to dry to a sticky mess. But I’ve never seen anyone pouring milk on a winner of a competition.
Is milk the chosen beverage for all participants in auto racing to pour on after a win? Why chose milk? All I can think of is that you’d end up smelling like a mixture of gas fumes and baby spit up. Yuck!
