Caught By Surprise

A few weeks ago I was reading a blog which frequently features items the writers has sewn. This one had a skirt featured. I really liked it and decided to get the pattern so I could — one day — make one for myself. I sew in fits and spurts and I’m due to have a spurt but so far, nothing is being made.

At any rate, I found the pattern in the necessary size at Joann’s. I had no idea what the price was, especially since the pattern cabinet was marked with a 40 percent off sign. I took the pattern to the checkout and nearly fainted when the clerk said it would be $10 and some change.

When did patterns get so expensive? I had better find some sale fabric to make this and I’d better make sure I use the pattern since I’ve invested so much in it.

Yes, patterns can be expensive. However, Joanns and Hancock Fabrics will often run pattern sales – patterns for .99, $1.99 or $3.99 for Vogue. The Joanns in my area now has Simplicity patterns on sale for $1.99. Also, there are coupons for 50 percent off of fabric. Happy sewing!
