A Shock

I was reading the paper yesterday morning when I received a shock. There in the ad for Walgreens was the statement “Let us be your back-to-school headquarters.” 1

Surely it’s too early to start back-to-school shopping! I’m positive the students would agree with me that they haven’t been out of school that long,  especially those students who went to summer school. But since some schools around here start August 15 I guess it is time to be thinking about shopping, especially if you have several children to get outfitted.

I usually replenish my supplies of undies, etc., during the back-to-school sales so I guess I’ll keep my eye open for those sales. Walgreens was advertising more paper and pencil type supplies.  Fortunately, I’m pretty well stocked with those items.

For the past couple of years I have been able to find 70-page college ruled composition notebooks for 15 cents. I love those notebooks! I try to keep a stock of them on hand. It’s getting to be that time again, so I intend to grab a bunch more. I love back to school sales! I love even more that I don’t have to buy anything for school, but can pick and choose what I want.

Yup, back to school stuff is out already here, also. I don’t mind so much because I’m “in school” (teaching) year ’round but I can imagine it being a rude surprise if you were a grade school kid to walk into the Walgreens to buy a Popsicle or something and see all the school supplies in July.

School starts in Portland, TN on August 6th and Art goes back July 23rd (custodian). He has been off since June 21st and enjoyed his 4 weeks off. Not like the “good old days” though when all schools started the day after Labor Day!
