I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately. Some books have come from my own bookshelves and some have been from the library.
One book from my shelves was “Green Light” by Lloyd C. Douglas. It’s an older book, copyright in 1934. As I read it, I was struck by the vocabulary Mr. Douglas used. None of the present day books I’ve read can match it.
So I got to wondering … are our modern writers dumbing down their books? Can we not read and understand their stories if they don’t use simple language?
