Last evening was the first day of spring here in the northern hemisphere. I’ve noticed some sounds which herald the arrival of spring better than a date on a calendar.
First, the robins which make a nest each year in my yard are back. I hear their chirping joined by other birds in the neighborhood. Definitely a sound of spring.
Then there’s the ice cream truck. It’s hard to accept he has already started making the rounds of the neighborhood but he is. That tinny sound of his music is more a sound of summer than of spring but here he is.
Sunday afternoon I was working at my computer when I heard another sound … not of spring but of summer. My neighbor next door has a riding mower and he was out mowing his lawn! Give me a break! The yard is barely green and definitely too short to need mowing.
So there you have some sounds of spring in my neighborhood — bird song, ice cream truck and neighbor’s lawn mower.
