Serendipity

When I was at Borders on Monday, I saw a book by Maeve Binchey. I briefly considered using my 40 percent off coupon to buy it but in the end elected to get a paperback by Laura Childs instead.

Tuesday I got an email from the library. The book I had requested was being held for me. At first I was puzzled. I hadn’t requested a book. Then I looked at the title they were holding … it was the Maeve Binchey title I had seen at Borders!

I picked it up yesterday and have until the 16th to read it.

So your Borders stayed open. My mom reports that the one near them had the closeout sale and closed very quickly. (Which makes me sad, it was my favorite “chain” bookstore up there and I used to go often when I visited my folks).

I remember shopping at the old “flagship” Border’s on State Street when I lived in Ann Arbor. That was even before they expanded into a chain. I bought the first Nero Wolfe mysteries I ever read there.
