Farewell to 2010

There’s an old saying about March coming in like a lamb and going out like a lion. 2010 decided to ape that behavior yesterday.

There was a long line of storms stretching from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico moving across the country yesterday. It came through where I live. There were six small but powerful tornados in that line of storms that touched down in this area. One of them hit the Catholic church in Fenton, about three miles from me. Twisted off the roof, demolished the house next to it, damaged their new school building, and tore off limbs/leaves of the trees in the parking area.

One hit in Sunset Hills about a mile south of where my knitting group meets and demolished a medical imaging building, turned cars and trucks over, demolished four houses, etc. Just east of there in Crestwood, they (along with thousands of others) lost their power. The telephone/power poles were snapped off and the only thing holding them upright was the wires strung between them.

In Ballwin it tore big oak trees out of the ground at the golf course, tore guttering off other buildings and wrapped it around poles. Thirty buildings collapsed in north St. Louis from straight-line winds.

Amazingly, there were only two minor injuries in this area although two women in a small town maybe 15 miles from here were killed. I’m not sure where to tell you to look for pictures but there were some posted on KMOX’s website.

Thanks be to God, I had no damage at my place.

Glad to hear that you are okay. Here in Portland, TN we had a terrific wind/thunderstorm Fri. night, but nothing like Missouri and Arkansas experienced.
