One of the things I like about this time of year is the displays of Christmas lights. More than the big “commercial” displays on view in various parks which usually charge a fee for you to drive through and view them, I like the neighborhood displays. Granted, the ones which charge a fee are usually a fund-raiser for a charity. My neighbors, in contrast, just put up their lights because they want to.
In my neighborhood it seems like every night another neighbor has finished decorating his house and yard with colorful lights, inflatable figures and other holiday decor. It really lights up the neighborhood.
I really appreciate the brightness added during this darkest time of the year. As the days grow shorter and it’s dark by 4:30 p.m., it would be easy to get depressed. But seeing all the colorful lights cheers you up.
