Thursday I got an email from the OASIS organization inviting me to attend a ragtime band concert that evening in an area park. I really like Dixieland jazz and decided to go.
I found the park with no problem. I even found a parking spot without problem. As I was walking up a rather steep hill carrying my lawn chair a young woman came and took it from me and carried it up to the side of the pavaillion where the band was setting up and got me all situated. What a nice thing for her to do!
The program was about an hour in length. There was some Dixieland in it but it was just a nice overview of jazz in the early 1900s. The drummer in the band is the man who does a lot of the musical Senior Seminar programs and he interspersed bits of music history between the numbers.
At least one representative from a new senior living facility was there. They provided bottled water and cookies. Before the program ended, they did a raffle for a prize basket of fruit.
Representatives from OASIS were there, too. They had the new catalogue for their courses for the next semester. I shall have to see if there’s something I want to take.
