Last Monday was the first day of autumn. You’d never know that if you went by the local temperatures this week. We’ve had gorgeous late summer sun and temps. But autumn’s arrival is evident when you look at the trees. They are beginning to turn color. I think it’s early for that in this area. Usually the peak of the leaf color is mid October and to see it beginning in mid September makes me wonder if we’re going to have a long cold winter. Time will tell.
I even smelled a leaf fire the other day. I like the odor of burning leaves but, again, I think it’s early to be burning leaves. I also like the smell of a fire in the fireplace. No doubt that odor will soon be wafting my way too. Whether I want to do it or not, I think it’s time to say good-by to summer and hello to autumn.
