Today I was knitting with my student at a local B&N. She commented on the new project I was working on, a peach colored baby sweater, and I was happy to tell her I was knitting it from stash yarn. This got me to thinking … how do I know I have enough yarn in my stash? What amount of stash should you have? When I think about the yarn I have stored in plastic bins, zipped blanket cases, an armoire in the guest room, and in various knitting bags and baskets and then think about my presumed lifespan, I don’t need to buy another skein of yarn — ever! I’m going to make a firmer commitment to knit from stash with the idea that I won’t leave a lot of yarn behind me for family members who have no interest in crafting of any kind to deal with. At least if I knit it up and gift it away, I’ll know it went to good homes. Perhaps I better leave instructions to the family for the leftovers.
The peach colored baby sweater is for another young lady at church. I learned yesterday that her shower is May 30. The shower for a different young lady which had been scheduled for May 24 has been postponed but I’m not sure why. Big sigh of relief as I interrupt knitting the sweater for that baby to knit the new one. It’s really too bad that knitting doesn’t qualify as aerobic heart healthy exercise. If it did, I’d be very fit … as well as slim. For the peach sweater I’m using a Classic Elite pattern of a cardigan with some cables on either side of the front, near the edge. They’re not typical cables but add just enough interest to a simple sweater. I’m knitting the 9-12 month size so hopefully the baby will get some use from it.
Robin Update … saw two robins in the front yard today when I left to go to B&N. One had a worm in its beak so I’m guessing they have a nest somewhere nearby.
