I saw some daredevils this afternoon. I was on the Interstate, driving to a graduation party in a town about 25 miles away. There I was, merrily traveling the speed limit in the right hand lane when the first daredevil passed me. It was a motorcycle which varoomed by at a high rate of speed. [...]

Almost there

I’m almost finished with the peach colored sweater. I still need to add the neck trim — just two or three rows — and set in the sleeves and sew the underarm/side seams. I should be able to get that done tomorrow so I can attend the shower tomorrow evening. My right hand hurts too [...]

Sunday morning the pastor announced that C and M’s baby had passed away on Saturday. He had to stop talking for a few minutes because he was crying. There were lots of tears in the congregation. We have a number of new babies in the church this spring and all those mothers hugged their baby [...]
Three times a charm

I knit and ripped the right front of this peach sweater twice, trying to mirror image the leaf lace panel. But the third time it worked! Finally I managed to get my brain to read the pattern starting with a row beginning from the left side of the chart. Row 4 was a stinker … [...]

I’m busy knitting another baby gift. This is a peach colored sweater. I’m using a Classic Elite pattern for a cardigan knit in pieces. On the fronts is a leaf lace pattern. I knit the left front. Started the right one and got the bright idea to knit the lace chart starting on the left [...]

Several days ago I received an invitation to a tram tour and lecture at the Botanical Gardens. The event was today. I phoned in my RSVP and was really looking forward to it. I fully intended to take my camera but, alas and alack, it remained at home.
Getting to the Gardens caused my blood pressure [...]

Yesteday I went out to get the newspaper which was in the drive. A small dog, trailing a leash behind him, came charging toward me, barking. He did not like me coming into his driveway. But when I looked at him and insisted on walking toward him, he turned tail and ran back toward his [...]
How much stash is enough?

Today I was knitting with my student at a local B&N. She commented on the new project I was working on, a peach colored baby sweater, and I was happy to tell her I was knitting it from stash yarn. This got me to thinking … how do I know I have enough yarn in [...]
Hessie Mayhew’s gardening advice
Posted in Uncategorized, tagged gardening on May 13, 2008 | 2 Comments »
Hessie Mayhew is a character in Jan Karon’s Mitford series of books. Early in the spring, she writes a gardening column for the local newspaper in which she goes into raptures over Lady Spring’s return. However, she ends every column with the stern warning: ”Do not plant until May 15.”
I thought of Hessie today. I bought two [...]
Tea … and Robins

For the last number of months I’ve been drinking iced tea. I used to drink a lot of coffee but anymore, iced tea is my beverage of choice. I even drank it all through the cold days of winter. I wonder … does this mean I’m turning into a Southerner? Surely not, because my tea [...]
